ext4magic
project has been in deep sleep for 10 years and is now changing to abandoned.
During this time, around 30 releases of the dependent e2fsprogs and library have been released. These changes are not reflected in the current ext4magic code, so current file systems are no longer compatible with ext4magic.
User feedback shows that ext4magic can no longer successfully process current ext4 file systems.
The clear recommendation to users is: please do not use ext4magic, it will no longer work correctly.
For the packers in the various distributions, if you still provide packages for it, please stop supporting ext4magic as an optional package for your distribution.
Otherwise you will only raise false hopes in users who have just had a data accident, and this tool can no longer live up to these hopes

Does what it should and the project page is really helpful. Saved my data.

I accidentally deleted a very important directory and the last backup was around one month old. Ironically because I wanted to do a new backup and cleaned up my home directory before. A lot of files and directories were moved and deleted until I realized my mistake. I tried other tools like extundelete without success. Then I found ext4magic and it was able to restore my directory completely without any data loss -- and that extremely fast. It saved my day, thank you very much!
